MORE than 10'000 people took part in yesterday's Sant Sebastia Cycling Festival organised for the 33rd year running by Palma City Council and the La Caixa banking foundation.

Mayor Aina Calvo and Balearic Director for La Caixa, Joan Ramon Fuertes gave the starters orders in Plaza Cort and cut the ribbon to signify the start of the festival.

The route for participants, each wearing their own registration number ran along the Parc de la Mar by the Paseo Maritimo, up Calle Antoni Maura, the Ramblas, Calle Jesus and Calle Salvador Dali to the final destination of the Son Moix sports stadium.

Local Police and Red Cross volunteers monitored the crowds.
At the finish line, there were prizes for the oldest and youngest competitors, the most original bicycle, the best disguise and the best turned-out school class.

A party was held for competitors at the sports stadium where people were invited to watch a “Bike Trial” exhibition. Awards were handed out at 1.15pm and prize draws were held for all who had taken part.
