STAFF REPORTER YESTERDAY saw the launch of a loan of up to 2'400 euros offered by the Balearic government to people who have been made redundant. The move comes thanks to the creation of a fund by the Sa Nostra banking foundation, from which 500 people may already be able to benefit.

Although the agreement was signed by regional Employment and Training Minister, Joana Barcelo and Sa Nostra president Fernando Alzamora at the Consolat de Mar government offices in Palma yesterday, Balearic president Francesc Antich had set his seal on the occasion by pre-empting emergency aid for people who had fallen victim to the economic crisis and its resulting redundancies. Loans will range from between 624 an 2'400 euros per head, with each person being given an ample period of time in which to repay the money.
