THE average Social Security pension was 576.62 euros in the Balearics in February, 5.2 percent more than in the same month last year.
However, this was 9.6 percent below the national average which went up to 637.86 euros, according to figures published yesterday by the national Ministry of Work and Social Affairs. The five existing pensions (retirement, widowhood, permanent incapacity, orphanhood, and dependents) in the Balearics stayed below the national average keeping them at fourth place on the list of autonomous regions where these payments are lowest, only ahead of Galicia, Extremadura and Murcia.
The average retirement pension in the Balearics is 643.02 euros compared with the national average of 717.85.
