AVERAGE cholesterol levels of people in the Balearics stand at 22.8 percent, lower than the Spanish average which is 24.3 percent.
Studies carried out during summer of 2002 analysed cholesterol levels of 34'000 patients across Spain. In the Balearics, 1'118 individuals were examined, 45.1 percent men and 54.9 percent, women. Other information emerging from the research revealed that 87 percent of those with high cholesterol levels were also suffering from other cardiovascular health risks, such as hypertension (blood pressure), a sedentary lifestyle, obesity, diabetes, being smokers, and having a family history of heart disease.
