TWO people, both Russian, were arrested yesterday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 35-year-old Russian prostitute in Palma early yesterday morning.

The two people in police custody yesterday were understood to have been another prostitute who is apparently responsible for the attack and her boyfriend who, according to sources close to the case, may not have any direct involvement in the fatal stabbing.

The attack happened at 1.15am in a bar in calle Rafaletes near Porto Pi.
According to eyewitnesses, the two women had been talking inside the bar before moving out on to the terrace which is where an argument apparently broke out and the victim was stabbed.

According to the Local Police, they first received a report that a woman had fainted outside the bar, but when officers reached the scene they realised it was serious.

The victim had been stabbed in the leg and was losing a lot of blood.
016 and 112 emergency services were called to the scene immediately and, once the victim had been stabilised, she was rushed to Son Espases Hospital in a critical condition.

Accident and emergency staff were ready to carry out immediate surgery but, in the end, there was nothing that could have been done to have saved her life and she apparently died in the operating theatre.

Sources close to the investigation said that police suspect the stabbing to be the result of a turf war between the two prostitutes.
Detectives continued with their inquiries yesterday.
