Palma.Early yesterday morning, Majorca's road claimed another life.
Just before 6am, a 31-year-old driver identified as Luis Fernandez Artigues lost his life in a serious accident.
For reasons which accident investigators are still studying, the driver appears to have lost control of his vehicle along a straight stretch of the Campos to Felanitx road and crashed directly into an iron wall.
Guardia Civil traffic police and paramedics were on the scene within a matter of minutes after a passing driver reported the accident but, due to the fierce impact of the accident and the severity of the multiple injuries the young man suffered, there was nothing the medical team could have done to have saved his life.
The vehicle the victim was driving, a Renault Megane Coupe, was a complete write off and part of the road was closed off until the scene of the tragic accident was cleared and the body removed.
Yesterday afternoon, crash investigators remained at the scene in an attempt to discover what caused the accident.
The few eyewitnesses which passed the scene early yesterday morning were also being questioned by the Guardia Civil traffic police.
