A TOTAL of 17 Majorcan shoe companies are taking part in this year's Modalcalzado, the international fair in Madrid which is being attended footwear professionals from over 70 countries.

The Majorcan Counsellor for the Economy and Tourism, Isabel Oliver, who visited the opening day of the fair yesterday with the Director of Economic Promotion, Luz Iglesias, praised the quality of the product being manufactured in Majorca and the prestige they had won in national and international markets. She added that the Council would continue working closely with the sector.

The Director of Shoe Manufacturers, Margalida Coll, welcomed the support of the Island Council and said that the visit of the Oliver showed the political will that existed to support the shoe manufacturing industry on the Island.

Yesterday was the 34th edition of the biannual international fair that showcases footwear and leather products.
This year, the autumn/winter collections of over 18'000 professional will be presented during the fair. The fair continues until tomorrow.
