Tar spill blocks highway

MAJORCA'S traffic department said yesterday that an overturned lorry on the Palma to Manacor highway by the Heights of Xorrigo had spilled its load of tar and caused queues of vehicles over a kilometre long. Emergency services attended the scene although the driver was uninjured and Guardia Civil cut the flow of traffic so that vehicles approaching the accident were diverted off the dual carriageway on to service roads. Specialist teams were needed to clean up the tar.
