LAST YEAR, the Local Police in Calvia confiscated over 25'000 items from illegal street vendors.
Over the course of the last year, members of the Local Police, carried out 1'650 spot-checks in the municipality, the vast majority in the main tourist resorts of Magalluf and Palmanova.

According to Calvia Police sources yesterday, the goods confiscated from traders operating without a municipal license, were worth over 140'000 euros and all have been destroyed.

The most common items were hats, watches, plastic sunglasses and imitation handbags along with fake jewellery and scores of cheap souvenirs.
This season, it is understood that Calvia police will be stepping up their controls of illegal street vendors.
