IN the wake of the success of last year's Thursday Night Fever late night shopping initiative in the centre of Palma, the retail sector is backing a move for the campaign to be extended all week.

Yesterday, the President of the Balearic Federation of Commercial Businesses (Afedeco), Bartomeu Servera, said that his organisation would like to see the city centre open late every week night during the summer. “It will be good for tourism and good for business,” he said yesterday.
The Thursday Night Fever campaign had the full support and backing of the Palma Hotel Federation which also welcomes the idea to have a summer of late night shopping.

The bar and restaurant sector has also welcomed the idea. Museums, cultural centres and even the Cathedral are also keen to get involved and extend their opening hours.
