Palma.—The tour operators, both domestic and international, along with the tourist industry in general are extremely worried about the trade unions' decisions to postpone talks over new contracts until after the Easter holidays.

New contracts have to be thrashed out for the hostelry, transport, restaurant and commercial sectors but unions want to get the general strike out of the way and also hear what the new Partido Popular, has to say in its first budget at the end of the month.

The talks directly affect 142'000 employees in the Balearics and many of those are involved with the tourist industry in one way or another and if a deal can not be reached with senior management, then further industrial action could be called and that could scupper the summer season with fears of regular strikes already worrying the tour firms.
