AN Italian television crew have been in Majorca making a documentary about the culture and politics of the Balearics.
Reporter Ernesto Oliva and cameraman Antonio Scarcella have put together the programme for the series, Mediterranea, on the RAI station.
The series explores the different customs of various regions of the Mediterranean.
Oliva said he was struck by the friendliness of the Majorcan people and their “strong sense of local identity”.
He added that he was also struck by the large number of different nationalities living on the island “without conflict”.
The programme will explore the many different sides to Majorca from the problem of drugs in Son Banya to the work of ships' carpenters.
The problem of integration for newly arrived immigrants is explored through an interview with a Spanish/Algerian married couple.
The documentary is due to be broadcast on Italian television shortly.
