PALMA
BALEARIC President Francesc Antich will be meeting up this Monday with Central Government Economy Minister, Pedro Solbes to talk about financing for the Islands.

Currently, the Socialist government in Madrid wants to support the region at a time of deepening economic crisis to the tune of 300 million euros. The amount, claims the Balearic government, is far too low and wants to see funding raised to anywhere between 380 and 700 million euros. Central Government Socialist party secretary, Rosamaria Alberdi said yesterday, that the meeting between Solbes and Antich is just one of many encounters aimed at getting the best possible result for the region. She said however, that Central Government financing policy for the regions has to be unilateral - favouritism cannot be shown specifically to the Balearics.
