THE demolition of the old San Juan de Dios power station and the project to construct the new headquarters of Gesa Endesa (the gas and electricity company) will cost approximately 50 million euros and “will be ready before 2008”, according to the director general of the company, Jaume Reguart, speaking yesterday. He was presenting the project in the company of the Balearic Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy, Josep Juan Cardona, and the Palma councillor for Town Planning, Rodrigo de Santos, at the start of the demolition work on the power station. Reguart emphasised that the demolition of the power station and the new administrative use to which the area will be put will mean a rise in the quality of life for the residents of Coll d'en Rebassa, who for years had to live with the problems generated by the power station, which was closed in 2002.
