THE 40 year old lorry driver, identified as Bartolome G.A., who was injured in the Port of Palma, is still in a serious state in the resuscitation unit in Son Dureta.

Doctors are refusing to elaborate on his condition until they see how he fares after the operation which they performed on Thursday.
According to Son Dureta sources, the operation, which was long and difficult, went “very well”, although they said it would be the next 48 hours which would determine whether it had been a success.

Bartolome G.A. was injured on Thursday after being trapped between the cab and trailer of his lorry on the ferry Blanca del Mar which had just docked in the Dique de Oeste in Palma.

As a consequence of the accident he suffered serious trauma in his lower limbs with open fractures and a slight lung trauma.
The trailer of the lorry, weighing 34'000 kilos, loaded with air conditioning equipment, trapped him against the cab from the neck down.
Firemen from Palma took nearly an hour to free the injured man, who was conscious throughout, after which he was taken to Son Dureta by ambulance, where he arrived in a critical state. The man, who is Majorcan, works for the company Transportes Alarcon which is responsible for unloading the container.
