Palma.—The British Ambassador to Spain, Giles Paxman, arrived in Minorca at the start of a packed weekend of celebrations to mark the 300th anniversary of the construction of the British military hospital in Mahon Harbour on the Isla del Rey.

Yesterday, the Ambassador, accompanied by the Honorary Vice Consul to Minorca, Deborah Hellyer, and the Soller-born British Defence Attaché, Captain Federick Price RN met the President of the Council of Minorca, Javier Trejero.

A host of special events on the Isla del Rey will be taking place to mark this historic milestone and the celebrations will also feature The Royal Horse Artillery. Minorca has dubbed 2011 “British year”.
