Newsdesk JOSEP Oliver, the president of the CAEB (Balearic big business federation), expressed his “surprise” at Jaume Matas's decision to retire from politics.

But at the same time, he expressed his “deepest respect” for the decision, especially as it concerned “such an important person” for the Balearic community.

He praised the political career of Matas from the time he was the Balearic director general of budgets in 1989 to the present. He had special praise for the work he has carried out during the last legislature, especially in matters concerning amenities and the recovery of the economy.

Francesc Horrach, president of PIMEM, the small and medium sized business association,” praised the “very receptive attitude” Matas had always shown towards the problems and needs of the associations which make up Pimem. “Matas always received us and has listend to us,” he said, and he wished Matas “good luck in this new stage of his life in private enterprise.” Matas has said that he will spend a period of “decompression” in Madrid and will then take up a post with a firm in the United States, although he did not say which firm or where he would be based.
