Newsdesk THE Council of Majorca will distribute 14'000 recycling bag kits and 600 glass containers to different towns on the island to encourage recycling, according to the Council of Majorca's councillor for Local Cooperation, Catalina Julve, who stressed the necessity to have the cooperation of all residents in order for this to have maximum effect. During the presentation of the project, Julve said that, on the one hand, from September they will deliver glass containers of 120 litre capacity to bars and restaurants on the island with the aim of making it easy for these establishments to separate their waste. They have already done a pilot test in the last few months in various villages, and Pollensa has already ordered 200 of these containers. On the other hand, from July 1 the Council of Majorca, through the “Majorca Recycling” programme, will deliver kits composed of three recycling bags for domestic use in 11 towns in the locality of Es Raiguer and in others who ask for them. These kits will facilitate the separation of paper and cardboard, light packaging and glass containers, an initiative which has already been started in Bunyola, Porreres, Binissalem and Puigpunyent. According to the island director of Waste Management, Guillem Riera, this will mean that residents will be able to separate the waste in their own homes and leave the bags out for collection.
