THE European Commission has given Gesa Endesa a grant to start a feasibility study to determine the best technology for underwater electrical connections between Majorca, Ibiza and Formentera, according to the company.

The work was considered by the European Union as “A Project of Common Interest”.
The objective of the company is to help the development of the island regions, taking into account the peculiarities of each island, with the aim of finding the best technological solution from the technical, economic and environmental point of view.

Underground and underwater stretches have also been studied, to avoid interference with the fishing sector and maritime traffic, to minimise the impact on marine vegetation and to respect natural protected spaces.
