Cleaners wage war on street drinking

MUNICIPAL rubbish collection and water management company, Emaya launched a cleaning campaign yesterday aimed at doing away with the worst of the mess left after notorious street drinking parties along the Playa de Palma and in other scenic spots favoured by tourists.

Emaya took on similar work last year, responding to a call from the Playa de Palma Tourist Businesses Association.
The cleaning company will take its special service to the streets, every day of the summer season up to 10pm. A total of four operatives will use an open-topped lorry and another with a bucket-style container between Plaza de las Maravillas up towhere the Torrente dels Jueus flood channel opens out into the sea. Emaya said that other personnel will empty street litter bins and clean the pavements with a pressure hose.
