PALMA
THE third lane on the Via Cintura ring road will be one of the first projects to be carried out on the road network by the new Council of Majorca.
This will be started as soon as the agreement with the Spanish Ministry for Public Works is signed. The third lane will run from the Valldemossa exit to the Genova exit. The Son Servera by-pass will be another project to be carried out at the same time.

This was announced by the Council of Majorca's councillor for Public Works, Antoni Pascual, who said he was confident that in September the agreement would be signed and they could then go ahead with the work on the road network. The document, he recalled, was agreed by all parties some eight months ago and his department is now ready to start processing the projects.

The third lane for the Via Cintura will be the first project to be carried out as the project had been agreed and drawn up during the last Council of Majorca's term of office. It has to be put out to tender and the contract for the work awarded.

The Son Servera bypass will also be started immediately. In fact, the plans have already been drawn up and, in addition to this, it had already been included in the previous roads agreement. “The bypass is necessary for a better flow of traffic in the area”, said Pascual. The start of the improvement to the access roads into Palma will take more time, as the Council will have to do a study of mobility in Palma which will show the situation with all Palma's access routes. It will be at least six months before this study is finished, according to Antoni Pascual's estimate.

The greater part of the projects included in the roads agreement focus on the reform and improvement of the roads in and out of Palma, as for many years these have not been able to cope with the amount of traffic using them.

In addition to the third lane on the Via Cintura, it is also planned to widen the Llucmajor motorway via an extra lane.
