Palma.—The multi-role Hallifax Class patrol frigate is on her way to Libya where she will replace HMCS Charlottetown on Operation MOBILE to continue Canada's support of the NATO-led arms embargo against Libya in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

Under the command of Commander Bradley Peats, HMCS Vancouver with 225 sailors and a CH-124 Sea King Helicopter detachment from 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron at Patricia Bay joined Standing NATO Maritime Group one (SNMG1) in Gibraltar earlier this month. Her arrival comes amidst reports that the Canadian government intends to restore “Royal” designations to the Canadian navy and air force.
