JOSÉ Juan Cardona, the Balearic minister of industry, commerce and energy, said yesterday that the electricity cable links between Ibiza and Majorca will be underwater. At one stage, an overhead cable had been contemplated, he said in Ibiza yesterday.
Now, however, the government wants the cable to run underwater to Ibiza and then to the central Gesa power station underground. The minister also said that putting high tension cables underground is well defined in the master plan for energy for the Balearics, and we will apply the regulations, we will not change them. According to the master plan, medium and low tension wires should run underground, but it does not clearly specify whether or not high tension wires should be buried or not.
The minister said the regulations establish that lines operating with more than 66 megawatts must be placed in a reserve of land or energy corridor which has to be established in due time.
