PALMA airport received a total of 3.1 million passengers in August, some 4.9 percent more than in the same month last year, according to AENA (the Spanish Airports Authority) sources. They said that Palma airport had handled 15.7 million travellers in the first eight month of 2006, some 5.8 percent more than in 2005.
The Majorcan airport reached a new record for operations on one day (August 5), handling 1'029 aircraft arrivals and departures, in comparison with the previous record of 1'007 on August 7 2004. As for passenger traffic, the highest number handled this year was also on August 5, with 145'798 passengers in comparison with 153'173 on August 14 2004.

According to AENA, this figure is an indication of the change which the airport traffic is undergoing, with a tendency towards more passengers flying during the week. During August there were 24'079 aircraft movements, some 6.2 percent more that 12 months previously, while a total of 2'067 tonnes of freight was handled, some 5.3 percent more.
