THE Balearic Government is adopting the Avanthotel system, which up to now could only be used by professionals, so that clients can make reservations and pay for them on-line.

This will be used mainly for the “City Break” system which is revitalising the tourism sector at weekends and bank holidays during the low season.
This was announced by the director general of Research, Technological Development and Innovation, Pere Antoni Oliver, who said that this system, which the IBIT Foundation has been developing for eight years, is used by all the hoteliers associations on the islands, and has also been sold to various countries in South America, will have changes in its configuration. Oliver explained that they are currently working on the creation of a new area “Intelligent Destinations”, a project which is partially working at the moment but it will not be completely developed until 2009. This will mean the diversification of Avanthotel, incorporating a greater offer of services (going further than just accommodation offers), aimed at a varied clientele.

The director general revealed that the subportal will have sections (or channels) such as “Eco vi”, dedicated to wine cellars producing Balearic wine; “Polo Nautico” about nautical acitivities; as well as another for art galleries, which is also in development; and the “City Breaks” section.
