PALMA
A German holiday maker drowned while swimming off the beach in Sa Coma yesterday taking the total number of tourists to have lost their lives in Majorcan waters this month to eleven.

This latest tragedy happened at midday when the 49-year-old woman suddenly felt ill while swimming and began to drown.

SAVE HER LIFE
She was quickly rescued by beach guards who administered first aid and moments later the Local Police arrived and continued the battle to save her life.

A 061 ambulance then reached the scene but there was nothing the paramedics could do to save her life.
The victim was on holiday with her husband and they had been staying in a nearby hotel.
The Guardia Civil have opened a full investigation, just like in the previous ten cases of drownings in Majorca since the start of this month.
The majority of the drownings have occurred on beaches in the municipalities of Palma and Calvia and most of the victims have been aged in their late 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

The eldest victim was 90-year-old German who drowned in Cala Fornells, Peguera.
On Wednesday, the body of a man who is thought to have spent nearly 20 hours in the water was washed up on Can Pere Antoni, in front of the old GESA building,. in Palma.
