Palma.—Since the recession first hit Spain in 2007, the number of Spanish nationals emigrating overseas in search of work has doubled, according to a report published by Asempleo, the association of Spanish employment agencies, yesterday.

Last year alone, 56,392 Spanish nationals emigrated, 6.7 percent more than in 2011, with the United Kingdom being the most popular destination followed by France, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium while 24,259 opted for South America in particular Ecuador.
