PALMA
MAJORCA boxing gets ready to go into top gear when Vauxhall Motors Boxing Club takes on Selección Balear at the Palma Arena next week.
Twelve fighters from each team will face each other Friday next week October 9. Tickets are on sale at Muscular Shop in Palma where advance purchase tickets can be bought for 5 Euros. Tickets are available at the box office on the night for 8 Euros.

Vauxhall Motors Boxing Club is made up of workers from the car factory based in Ellesmere Port in Merseyside.
It is a well established club, and was awarded lottery money earlier this year. The Big Lottery Fair Share Trust granted it £31'000 to improve facilities and community programmes including its Gloves not Gangs initiative which encourages young people in the area to get involved in boxing in a hope to get them off the streets and not involved in gang culture.

The factory has been in the news in Britain earlier this year when Unite joint general secretary Tony Woodley said an unnamed UK car plant was in need of “serious financial help” and would close “within just a couple of days” without it. Doubts about the factory's stability have been floating around since 2002 when Vauxhall's Luton plant was closed.
