A total of 10'000 posters, with eight pictures of different emblematic places on Majorca, will be used to promote an alternative tourism to the traditional sun and sea holidays in Majorca. An agreement was signed yesterday between the Council of Majorca and the Tourist Promotion Office, under which the promotion will have a budget of 15'000 euros for next year, 2007. The Council of Majorca's director for Tourism, Josep Bestard, said during a press conference that similar agreements have been signed annually for the past 11 years between the two institutions. He added that the aim of this was “to collaborate in the tourist promotion of the island” and went on to say that the intention of both entities is that the posters will be put up in tourist information offices and displayed at international tourism fairs.
EXCITING
According to the President of the Tourist Promotion Office, Alvaro Middelman, the posters which have been produced “will promote the most exciting aspects of Majorca” and will contribute to having tourism on the island throughout the year instead of just in the summer, as happens now. The Council of Majorca's councillor for the President's Office, Francesc Buils, insisted that it is necessary to promote quality tourism “particularly at international fairs, promoting gastronomic, golf and nautical tourism” to attract a wealthier class of tourist, “who will spend more money on the island and therefore contribute more to the economy”.
