By Staff Reporter THE scandal into alleged cash-for-contracts row involving members of the last Balearic government took a new twist yesterday when a Palma judge investigating the case was told that ex-Balearic minister for Industry Juan Cardona had full knowledge of the alleged payments. Cardona last night denied the allegations.

The former Director General for Economic Development (part of the local ministry) Antonia Ordinas told the judge yesterday that the scandal went all the way to the top at the local government department. Ordinas, her partner Isabel Rossello and the former Director General for Industrial Promotion, Kurt Viaene, were all arrested last week on charges that they accepted payments in return for Balearic government contracts. The alleged fraud involving public funds could reach the eight million euro mark.
