NEWSDESK THE local aid association Mallorca sense Fam (Majorca without hunger) said yesterday that it is beginning to feel the pressure and made a plea for more volunteers to help the association meet growing demand for food.

Over the past year, the association has distributed over 70'000 kilos of food stuffs and yesterday, a spokesperson said that they have noted a marked increase in the number of young parents who are out of work and have children turning to them for help.

MAJORCAN FAMILIES
However, they are continuing to help a significant number of immigrants without papers and elderly people living on their own.
There has also been a “considerable” rise in the number of Majorcan families seeking assistance. But, while demand for help has risen, it appears that donations and help has frozen up making the association's situation even more complicated.

Every 15 days, Mallorca sense Fam feeds 674 families but the association fears that unless it receives more support from the general public, it may have to restrict its actions. Sadly, the association is one of many local charities in a similar position.
