Palma.—The National Statistics Institute yesterday reported that the Balearics population is going to grow the fastest in Spain over the next ten years. According to the Institute's “short-term” population report, between 2011 and 2021, the Balearic population is going to grow by an estimated 3.65 percent followed by the Canary Islands, Andalusia and Murcia with growth forecasts of 2.71, 2.66 and 2.33 percent respectively.

Last year, the number of inhabitants in the Balearics rose by 9'424 and this year, it is expected to have risen by 6'080. Next year, the local population is forecast to increase by 5'538. Nation wide, the population is expected to decrease by half a million because the death rate is higher than the birth rate.
