By Humphrey Carter WHILE Sa Pobla and Manacor were yesterday still trying to come to terms with the bloody weekend in which one man was shot dead and a woman died after being hit over the head with a bottle of cava champagne, the first of the suspects appeared before an Inca court. -year-old Evaristo Diaz is the prime suspect in the investigation into the death of 56-year-old Margalida Ros Rodriguez on Saturday morning. Ros had been trying to get into Diaz's Sa Pobla home after she heard shouts and screams coming from inside. He and his disabled German wife were apparently having a fierce argument and Ros was desperate to help. But, as Ros banged on the front door and screamed for him to stop allegedly mistreating his wife, Diaz allegedly rushed out and hit Ros over the head with a bottle of cava. Her father, Cristofol, was also injured after he rushed to try and save his daughter. -year-old Cristofol was recovering yesterday in Son Dureta hospital. In Manacor, two men, Francisco P.L. and Pedro R.R, were in police custody in connection with the shooting of Julio Camacho Nova. The 30-year-old's body was found some 500 metres from a waste dump on the outskirts of Manacor on Saturday afternoon. Police sources said yesterday that one of the men in police custody, Francisco, apparently admitted his involvement telling investigators that Camacho “owed him drug money” and that he would sometimes go on to his land and cause considerable damage. The exact time of the shooting has not been confirmed but detectives believe Camacho, otherwise knows as “Julito” who had only recently been released from jail, was shot dead on Saturday morning in a revenge killing, as police suspected from the start of their investigation. However, the second suspect, Pedro, claims to have “no knowledge” of Camacho's death. But police sources said yesterday that the two men did meet Camacho at mid-day on Saturday. Camacho wanted to apparently offer them some more drugs. However, according to Francisco, an argument broke out over damage being caused to the finca and it was allegedly Pedro who “shot Camacho twice” with the sawn-off shotgun he keeps to protect his land. According to sources close to the investigation, one of the suspects had accused Camacho, who has a criminal record, of stealing from his plot and had arranged for the 30-year-old to meet them there on Saturday to apparently discuss the problem. Camacho's body was found on the Sa Torre finca by the owner's son. Neighbours have told police that “shots were heard” and “people seen running” in the area on Saturday. In both cases, the victims and suspects were, and are, well known locally and the violent deaths have shocked the communities in Sa Pobla and Manacor. In Sa Pobla, people who know Evaristo Diaz said he is a “good man who loved his wife.” The couple were apparently going through some financial problems and had recently fallen into debt which police sources fear may have been the cause of Saturday's argument.
