IBERIA yesterday reduced the fuel surcharge on its European and long haul flights, due to the “lowering of crude oil prices,” according to the airline. Iberia said that the reduction on European flights would be two euros per flight, while on flights to America and South Africa the reduction would be three euros per flight. Nevertheless, the airline said that it “cannot rule out” changes to these charges in the future, depending on the international price of fuel. Iberia is the latest airline to do this. Lufthansa, Air Europa, Air France and KLM all reduced their fuel surcharges earlier as a result of the fall in the price of oil. Lufthansa reduced its fuel surcharge on long haul flights by 10 euros on October 16, while on October 5 Air Europa reduced its charge by between one and seven euros on European flights and between seven and 15 euros on long haul flights. KLM reduced its charges at the end of September by five euros for intercontinental flights and one euro for European flights.
