STAFF REPORTER A 71-year-old Briton, identified by the police as Ronald R.S., was killed in the early hours of yesterday morning after being knocked down by a taxi on the road between Pollensa and the Port.

The Guardia Civil and the Emergency Services confirmed that the tragedy had happened outside the Joan Mas secondary school at about 1.30am.
Police and paramedics had rushed to the site of the accident when the alarm was raised but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Guardia Civil are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
FURTHER TRAGEDY
Separately, on Friday night at 10.15pm, a woman employed at the Clinica Juaneda was knocked down by a vehicle in Avenida Picasso in Palma. The victim was seriously injured and taken to the clinic by ambulance but no further details were released. Meanwhile, also in Palma, the Guardia Civil were mourning a loss of their own yesterday after a 33-year-old officer was killed in a motorbike accident in Calle Benito Pons and Fabregues.
