PALMA REPRESENTATIVES of unions working in the Health sector in the Balearics said yesterday that their members are “totally opposed” to start moving patients from Palma's Son Dureta hospital to the new general hospital at Son Espases (pictured) on 8th December, the date set by the regional government.

The Unions have called on the Ministry for Health and Consumer Affairs to reconsider the schedule because the transfer of patients, said the representatives, needs to be carried out when the organisational and technical arrangements are at their optimum moment.

The Unions apparently feel the transfer process is being rushed without giving proper consideration to the staff who will be organising it. Representatives said that their members need time to adjust to the new surroundings and that being “pushed” to meet the government deadline may put both themselves and the patients at risk.
