THE figures say that Palma is one of the safest cities in the whole of Europe.
According to the Commissioner of Local Police, Nicolas Herrero, the capital of the Balearics recorded few serious crimes, although the minor offences are increasing, robbery in most cases.

The safety factor shown by the figure is a fact which does not always coincide with the view of the citizens of Palma.
The councillor for Transport, Antoni Donaire, took advantage of the presentation of the VIII Conference about Citizen Security and Cooperation, to be held on December 3 and 4, to refer to the duality of perceptions and the contradictions which exist with regard to this matter.

According to the figures, young people, who are those who are most vulnerable to crime, tend to assess the city as safe.
On the other hand, older people, the sector of the population which is least exposed to crime, tend to view the situation in a more alarmist fashion, seeing the city as less than safe.

Among the main worries for Palma citizens with regard to security and road safety are traffic fines, according to the councillor for Citizen Security, Transit and Transport, Antoni Donarie.
