“IT looks as though next year's tourist season is going to be much better,” said Palma Tourism Councillor, Joana Maria Borras yesterday.
Borras was basing her predictions on the fact that hotel occupancy rates in Palma during October stood at 58.23 percent, whilst a year ago they had been 3.92 points down at 54.31 percent.

The number of foreign tourists to Palma is also on the increase Borras claimed. In October last year, 102'796 visited the capital whilst during the same month this year there had been 112'390, an upturn of 9.3 percent. Borras said that the majority of tourists in Palma at this time of year are here for business, conferences or cultural trips. At a recent business fair in Barcelona, 32 official requests for information had been made on holding business incentive trips to Palma in 2010, said Majorca's Tourism Institute.
