Newsdesk EVERYTHING is set for the third Mallorca Surf Action event, which will be held on the Playa de Palma on August 25 and 26. Details were announced yesterday by deputy Mayor Cristina Cerdó, and Mateu Cañellas, the councillor for sports and youth activities, who are providing financial support for the event.

Cerdó said that Mallorca Surf Action is respectful of the environment, promotes the practice of sports and offers a leisure alternative for young people.

Cañellas agreed and added that events like this make Majorca a reference point for sports tourism as an alternative to “sun and sand.” This year, he added, it is open to the disabled.
Organiser David Servera said that in just two years, Mallorca Surf Action had become one of the most important events on an international level in the field of nautical and extreme sports. It promotes an alternative and healthy tourism, he added.

Servera commented on the financial difficulties for this year's event, which has an organising committee of about 40 people. The problems were solved, and quality maintained, he said, thanks to the support of professional athletes, organisations and private enterprise, as well as the Palma and Llucmajor city councils and the Balearic government.

Mallorca Surf Action, at Balneario 0 in Can Pastilla, will have a full programme of exhibitions of nautical sports, with world figures, and initiation programmes.

Sports include wakeboard, windsurf, kitesurf, BMX, rollerskates and sailing. There will also be shows featuring capoeira, batucada, breakdance, DJs, draws, and a Miss Riff competition.

There will also be five concerts by local groups.
