Palma.—The accident happened at 1.20pm some 200 metres from the entrance to the Badia Gran estate and the Guardia Civil have mounted an investigation into how the two vehicles were involved in the head-on collision along a straight stretch of road.

It appears that Juan MG, was driving his Peugeot 206 in the direction of Palma when he collided with 24-year-old Yolanda DA who was driving in the opposite direction towards Cap Blanc.

Both were travelling alone and, according to sources close to the investigation, Yolanda lives in Badia Gran while the male victim lives in Tolleric.

Such was the impact of the collision that both victims were trapped in their vehicles and fire fighters from the Lluchmajor station were needed to cut them free from the wreckage while the Guardia Civil handled the traffic flow along the road.

Eye witnesses spoke of a scene of chaos with debris spread all across the road and paramedics battling to care for the two seriously injured victims.
It took the fire fighters nearly two hours to free both of the trapped drivers from the vehicles which were completely written off as a result of the crash.

Medical sources confirmed yesterday afternoon that Yolanda, who had been driving a Clio, has broken both of her legs and suffered multiple injuries, however she was conscious. The male driver also suffered critical injuries and both were in intensive care last night.
