There was some encouraging data yesterday from the Ministry for Employment and Social Security which reported that unemployment has dropped again in the Balearics.

Palma.—On Monday, the President of the Balearics, Jose Ramon Bauza and the Secretary of State for Employment and Social Security, Fatima Bankez, told a meeting of the Majorcan Hotel Federation that the tourist industry is going to drag Spain out of recession while creating new jobs, the latest data from the ministry shows that last month, the number of people out of work in the Balearics fell for the sixteenth consecutive month.
Officially, the number of people registered as jobless dropped by 1,517 to 89,218, figures which were welcomed by the local government, especially as the contraction in the number of unemployed was above the national average, but challenged by the unions and the opposition.
