Calvia Council calls on Balearic Government to regulate all inclusive holidays

Calvia.—The Calvia Council approved a motion yesterday calling on the Balearic Ministry for tourism to regulate all inclusive holidays which have been blamed for killing the bar and restaurant trade in many resorts on the island.
The motion, from the opposition socialist group (PSOE), calls for the local ministry for tourism to investigate and regulate these prepaid packages. “What we want is the ministry for tourism to look at the issue of all inclusives and check that the food and drink that is offered is of the necessary quality and also take into account the damage this sort of holiday causes to the bar and restaurant trade,” said a PSOEsource in Calvia.
The call met with support from the ruling Partido Popular and Calvia Mayor Manu Onieva  who will now take the issue to the tourism department in Palma.
In the last decade all hoteliers have embraced all inclusive holidays leading one prominent bar owner to claim that the days were numbered for the bar trade in holiday resorts on the island.
