Palma.—The former Partido Popular President of the Balearics and Minister for the Environment when Jose Maria Aznar was leader of the country, Jaume Matas, was yesterday fined 9,000 euros after having been found guilty of bribery.
This latest case, one of many Matas is having to face relating to corruption surrounding the construction of the Palma Arena velodrome, was found guilty of having bribed a  local hotelier into giving his wife a job in public relations for a year. Matas will now have to pay 100 euros per day for the next three months and the courts the 42,111 euros his wife earned during her time in employment.
