The Balearic teachers’ union  yesterday urged the Ministry for Education  to reopen talks with the teachers committee to try to avoid further  strike action in September.Balearic teachers  are threatening strike action for next month, the first month of the new school year for many students and are also considering taking indefinite strike action   next April. The teachers’ union says the situation is unsustainable and urged the department to sit down with teachers and negotiate a deal.
“We need some political will to resolve the situation. If there is no such thing from the ministry we recommend replacing those who are in charge and replace them with someone competent and who is willing to consider alternatives,” Guillem Barcelo, spokesperson for the union said.
“The only way to stop this strike is to negotiate. We need a change in educational policies,” Barcelo added.
