Palma.—The newly appointed Balearic Minister for Education, Nuria Riera, yesterday continued her rounds of talks with the education sector yesterday as she tries to break the deadlock over the government’s controversial TIL, trilingual curriculum.
First meeting of the day was with the Rector of the Balearic University, Llorenç Huguet.
The university should have been consulted when the TIL programme was first drawn up, but was not, and that is one of the reasons the Balearic High Court ruled that week that the programme is “invalid” and should be suspended.
Both Riera and Huguet agreed that trilingual teaching in the Balearics is “very important for the region” and agreed to cooperate in future projects which are in the general interest of the general public, such as major alterations to the school curriculum.
