Palma.—Manacor council is currently discussing which areas of the municipality should be considered “Areas of Great Tourism Influx” and as such give shops in that area extended opening hour privileges.
The deadline to inform the Balearic government of their decision is due to be presented next week on 31 December at the latest but local political parties are said to be far from reaching consensus.
So far only the coastal area of Manacor has had that privilege, but some parties want that situation to be extended to Manacor town.
Other parties disagree saying that firstly, these decisions should be made by the Ministry for Tourism in the first instance, and secondly claiming that extending opening hours in Manacor town would only benefit large superstores.
