Majorca airport Son Sant Joan was yesterday rated as  the most profitable airport in Spain last year, according to airport authority AENA.

Palma.—Palma airport has no outsanding debts  and profits rose sharply  last year turning over more than the 97,6 million euros in  2013 and making it the most profitable one last year alongside Ibiza airport with 12,7 million euros.
According to a report  released yesterday by the Ministry of Development, Ibiza airport’s final figures  were important as they helped clear some of its outstanding debt which now stands  at 3, 65 million euros.
Both airports saw a surge in the number of passengers last year, which helps explain the end-of-the- year results.
Some 23,1 million passengers passed through Son Sant Joan airport in 2014, while in Ibiza figures rose to a record figure of 6,2 million.
Both airports managed to overcome the competition of some of Spain’s busiest airports precisely because of the lack of an   outstanding debt in Palma’s case and the “small” amount in Ibiza’s case.
