British investigative writer and journalist, John Carlin, is currently working on a second book about Spain’s new political party Podemos, and will be focussing especially on the party’s founder, Pablo Iglesias.
Podemos is a left-wing political party founded in 2014. In the 2014 European Parliament elections, Podemos received about 8% of the national vote, even though it was merely four months old at the time.
Podemos originated in the aftermath of the 2011 Indignados movement against inequality and corruption. It is a left-wing populist party that seeks to address the problems of inequality, unemployment and economic malaise that followed in the wake of the European debt crisis. Podemos has called for a renegotiation of austerity measures and seeks to curtail the Treaty of Lisbon.
