Small businesses want to block spread of “areas of large tourist influence”

 The Federation of Small to Medium Sized Businesses, Pimeco, yesterday announced its intention to block the latest applications from five more municipalities in Majorca to be declared ZGAT areas of  large tourist influence” which would give retailers the green light to open seven days a week  throughout the year.
In the past, resort retailers have been allowed to be more flexible during the tourist season, from 15 March to 30 October, but the current government over ruled that and now Llucmajor, Felanitx, Vilafranca de Bonany and Sa Pobla want to be declared ZGAT zones and that, Pimeco claims, will only benefit the large retailers.
