This weekend is the place to be as the Triathlon de Portocolom comes to town offering excitement, colour and fun. Once again the Triathlon de Portocolom has been named by the Balearic Triathlon Federation as the “Best Triathlon event of the year 2014”. This is the second consecutive year that the Triathlon in Portocolom has been awarded this accolade.
The 18th edition of the Balearic triathlon takes place over the weekend of the 11 and 12 April with Saturday seeing the start of the Trikids Duathlon. Over 200 children are due to take part with the race starting from 11.00 a.m.
The registrations for the competitions over 55.5 and 111 have been ongoing for many months and this year the number of participants in the competition will be limited to 1,000 (500 slots for each race). The race is one of the best liked events in Spain under the 55 and 111 format (1km swimming, 100km cycling and 10km running). You need to be fit for sure!!
The prestigious main event starts from 8.45 a.m on Sunday so look out for a local triathletes Miguel Angel Fidalgo, Carlos Lopez and Joan Nadal who are all top ironman athletes and Spanish cyclist José Almagro. The reigning Champion Markus Hörmann (Germany), the powerful Belgian climber Timothy Van Houtem, German Fabian Rhan, the Swedish Andreas Linden and last year’s second placed triathlete Austrian Uwe Ebner are all out to win.
